I figured I would do a write up on this because I couldn't find any other post on tapering a toyota bed. My plans are to narrow the bed 8" on each side.

you might try just cutting the whole floor out the bringing the taillights togetherwelding in some supports the replacing the floor of the bed with expanding metal that way if you feel the bed with dirt or mud you can just wash it out. I dont know if you have alot of mud but we do here so i thought about doing that to mine. Just an idea

It wasnt anyone's fault....so much....it is something that could have been addressed at Brian's level. But, how could he know.

It still is a sick rig no doubt.
This is why we only tacked the perches. At assembly time, the caster angle/pinion angle, should have been meaured, and the housing rotated. Obviously it was not. But, in all reality, this is the only thing I think the Benders could have possibly improved the execusion of. Seriously though, it was built in one day, in the dirt, this is a very minor issue. Especially considering the perches are 100% on tubes, so a quick cut off, rotate/reweld, easy as doing this on a rear.

Yeah, the diamond axles are perfect for that....no cast perches like the Dana garbage.

question: how did you set up the knuckles on this axle? Do you set a particular caster and weld it on? What caster do you set relative to the perch location that you chose?

Was there something wrong with them?

Also, nevrenuf dove tailed his rig by cutting the wheel tubs where they meet the bed, pulling the bed corners in, and chopping off the overlap. It turned out real clean. It may be easier to do it this way rather than trying to go over the wheel well...just a thought. :grinpimp:

i was going to say the same.. royce did a sick ass job on his bed... im a fan of the dovetail and did it on my 83 but you might not want to go with my style...
i cut everything out!!!!!!!
search for neverenuf's dovetail... its CLEAN!!!!!! :grinpimp:

mine...
