Ive driven it 3 times, only thing to watch out for are the don't drink and drive signs every 1/2 mile....

I can't recall ever seeing a speed trap (or police), but not like my d2 can achieve speeds high enough to get a speeding ticket...

yeah I have noticed that they do a lot of camping and sitting around at meetings. I'm always up for some wheeling so I will keep an eye out for that.

Why dont you two take your D2's somewhere else

I havent made that drive in a long time. Last time i did was in my D-90. It was nice, nothing to worry about except drunk indians crossing the road on foot late at night. Yes, im serious I have seen it several times around NM. May or may not be the fastest route, but gets the job done. Take a jerry can full of fuel if you like to push the E.

Thanks guys. Sometimes 'those areas' can be exciting.
Nice to know there's a more direct route...

I'll see you guys in Moab regularly in a year or so

Back on target -

We will roll into town on monday Nov 16th. Have reservations for 3 nights, and will definitely run Poison Spider/Golden Spike on Tuesday. After that, it depends on who shows and what we feel like running.

Post up if your planning on coming along. We will likely be staging each day at City Market Parking Lot around 8ish.

I am on call Monday night so if I don't get beat up to badly I will be there Tuesday morning.

I have never done PS or GS in a truck. Motorcycle, bike, and I even ran it once but never a truck.

Matt.

Also, I should have my silver 6x6 pinzgauer out, so any stragglers just wave us down. Should be easy to spot us that way.

Things I learned (or was reminded of) in Moab:

- I need friends that wheel more... the panzy-ass stuff I've been doing is just that...
- my ~34" tires are pretty much itty-bitty
- standard low seems low until you want to crawl it then it's way too high (mmmm crawler gears... I wants them)
- rock guards are your friend: I think I hit everything that hangs even slightly below the frame (and a couple things that are supposedly above the frame)
- whoever designed the link for the rear trailing arm on a defender was either a sailor or a geologists... those bloody things are either designed as anchors or rock samplers as they catch on bloody everything (and are now full of rock dust) I need to figure out some way of moving them
- while the ARB bumper looks nice it sure sticks way the heck out there and hangs bloody low
- my rock sliders are crap... (ONE bolt and a little tab to hold the back half of it... are you kidding me?! (why yes.. I did bend it up into my body pannel thanks for asking))
- while a detriot rear and a trutrack front seems like a nice idea in theory... the front trutrack is complete crap when you have a manual (let's see, brake, clutch and gas at the same time... nice idea knumbnuts)
- 15 psi turns into 0 psi pretty fast when your tire keeps burping... maybe I do need those beadlocks...

quote of the trip: "body alignment on a defender is a state of mind"

MAJOR thanks to Bill and KC for letting me tag along... they sure didn't need me and I definitely slowed them down a lot... but they were very kind to a n00b
