Couple of D2 issues

So I have a 2001 Disco II automatic 89,000 miles I just got and theres a couple of issues I need to sort out.

Problem 1:

At about 75 or so you can really hear a noise kind of a harmonic sound or gear wine. Not sure how to describe but It has nothing to with the motor cause it doesnt change pitch if I hit the passing gear but if I let on and off the gas I can make it start and stop. I noticed it again tonight coming down a hill in 1st but it was faint and I was only going about 25.

There is a little slop in the t-case. Not horrible just usual Rover slop from what I can tell. My 96 D1 is way worse.

Problem 2: Vibration on deacceleration around 80. The guy I bought it from suspected a front drive line and swapped in another used one that I inspected and it felt good. Problem did not go away. I am going to get the tires balaned just to see cause it kind of feels like maybe that could be it.

take the ds loose and feel it. 80 is pretty fast... I havent seen 80 in years.

harmonic noise might be the t-case or a diff whining, have you changed the fluids yet?

I havent done anything yet. Only had it for a week and right now I am trying to be as picky as I can cause I only have a 30 day warranty. Not much but better than a tail light warranty.

Try balancing your driveshaft, that solved any problems I had. As for the whine, I'm with KyleT, sounds like the t-case.
80 is when things start to smooth out.

I got arrested three times in 63 days in 1984. I have gone the speed limit ever since.

I probably haven't driven more than 10 over the speed limit more than ten times since 1984.

Seven years of assigned risk insurance will slow one down very quickly.

Take it to a driveline shop and say "Hey, can you balance my driveshaft?"

My D1 sees triple digits regularly, why are all of you scared to go fast? It does get a little sketchy slowing down between 84.5 and 79.3, but other than that, it's good to go.

I think it's because of the horror stories we hear about front drivelines destroying trannies at high speeds

The drive-shaft is going to destroy the tranny just as much at 40 as 140, and if you get it serviced and all the U-joints replaced with greasable ones (then actually grease it) you won't have anything to worry about.

I had the tires balanced/rotated and that cleared a lot of the vibration up but its still there a little. I think I may be fighting bad tires instead of drive line. We swapped the drive line from another one that looked to be in great shape and that didnt change anything. T-case fluid was dirty and thin. No more wine!

New issue I am taking it back to him for.

The ABS makes a racket when the truck first starts up and makes the same noise whenever the traction control kicks in. Any ideas?

Are you sure its not just normal ABS noise? Traction control is just ABS working to get you more traction to the wheels that need it so thats why you hear it then but not sure about why its making noise at start up

I cant imagine its normal especially since it doesnt happen all the time. It didnt do it for the first few days but started after about a week. It was rainy the first week I had it so I got to test the traction control a bit. It worked well without any noise. It still works well just really noisy.
