Spy Photo of The Newest Bumpers to Hit The Market
I stopped by a good friends shop over the weekend to shoot the shit and talk offroading and some new products. He told me he and his brothers had some new products that are going to change the way everyone thinks about bumper design and construction. He showed me the new tooling and a few prototype designs for 2002.5-2004 and 2005-2009 Dodge and The new JK Jeep. These are pound for pound strong then steel. Solid cast A356 Aerospace Aluminum, with Manganese Bronze tow hooks and weigh far less then any Fab'd steel bumper out there. These cause less stress on brakes and suspension components. When these go into production I plan on buying 3 for all my Dodge Trucks. I was told by Josh that the iron cross will not be in the production unit unless wanted. Here are a few pictures of the bumpers and they're massive foundry Josh told me if anyone is interested in them to contact Aberle Offroad at aberleoffroad@yahoo.com or by calling 303-908-4697

I also happened to spy a Dodge Dually that is being built with custom suspension, and some very interesting control arms. Not sure what all has been done to this thing but I rode in it and it'll smoke a Corvette. Josh or his brothers might chime in with some details on the bumpers and question on this Dodge dually.

Wow, rad bumpers indeed! I like the mold to the headlights, but cant stand the brotastic cross design... Are those able to be taken out of the design?
Also, anything in the works for 2nd gen Dodges? I'm going to post this link on the Cummins forums for some exposure. I like his product!

I talked to Josh and I'm not a big fan for the Iron Cross but I was told the reasons for the Iron Cross and I totally understand why thier family had them cast into the design but no the crosses will not be in there for the general public

I just asked Josh and he said the production models will be winch ready and weigh around 130 lbs give or take. Everything is designed in house and cast in house. They are located at
Aberle Offroad 4860 VanGordan st. Wheatridge, CO 80033 303-908-4697

Interesting product. Not my style but I wish them luck with them. More vendors are always a good thing.

I like the construction, and the thinking out of the box on the big aluminum casting bumper, however it is ugly as hell. It follows the grille and headlight lines nicely, but after that it goes down hill. Too many steps on the front of the bumper IMHO. With the casting process they can make a nice sweeping curve to follow the front of the truck, and actually make it more aerodynamic in the process.
How will the cast aluminum hold up to impact? I'd worry about it cracking or shattering. |

Love it or hate it, at least they're trying something new. Good luck to them.

Hell i like it. I'd like to see what they could come up with for a 1st gen. One with a winch mount. Ya know, Dodge DID make a truck before '94 afterall.

Those are the JK Jeep ones and I just got some texts messages today of them completed aka powder coated and surface machined. Also they are very open to ideas and suggestions about changing the design. They are a pretty new Offroad/Bumper company but have been in the foundry business for 3 generations. Also I have seen the JK bumper rammed into rocks very very hard and bearly scratched the powder coat.

They have a rough idea on the cost?
Are they going to be producing rear bumpers?

Like Murfman said in his post further up, the Dodge bumper has too many steps and useless details. Keep it simple. It's a bumper for a truck, not an intergalactic battle cruiser. It needs to follow the lines of the truck and complement them, not try and change the look of the truck. The pics of the Dodge bumper sort of reminds me of some of the import body kits that do more to screw up the look of a car rather than accent it.
I'd also like to see some testing done. A cast bumper is an interesting idea, but it's probably going to be an expensive lawn ornament if the first time you drop a corner on a rock, it snaps the end of the bumper off. I'm a little skeptical of what a cast bumper can do as far as protection. I'm sure it's a lot easier to cast something like this than to stamp in in steel or fab it from scratch with a brake, but if looks were the only important thing, we would all be running fiberglass bumpers. I'm not trying to tear the product down but I build tube bumpers and the first thing in my mind when designing one is strength and protection and I worry about the look second. I just have to wonder if the first fender bender or rock a bumper like this gets into is going to crack it or snap a huge chunk off that would be a complete pain to have repaired due to the cast aluminum construction. I know what can happen to a cast aluminum engine block in a wreck and I'm sure most people would rather avoid something like that in a bumper.
