Tellico 4/05/2008

I'd like to see everyone with an ORV that is street legal or on a trailer in Murphy and Tellico this weekend. It's the first Saturday after the trails reopen from winter.

Let's put a face and a visual on who and what we are.

Toyota, Jeep, truggy, buggy....doesn't mater as long as it is there.

We need to show Murphy who we are, what were about and how much money we spend. I'm putting together ground work for a parade of rigs in town. Then spend an hour or two in town and go trail ride. A pot-luck supper at Crawfords that evening. trail ride on Sunday or go home. Just be there to support our community.

Please repost this to your local boards

Question

That is a great idea and has been talked about with the Rescue Tellico Committee.
Let's plan it:
My suggestion is meet at the SAVE-A-LOT parking lot, this is where Jeep Jamboree meets.
Be there by 9 or 10 a.m.
Parade from there downtown, to McDonalds turn left then left again and that will take us back to town then out Joe Brown Hwy.
I will talk to Danny at Crawfords.
Chucks Rescue Tellico truck can lead the parade.
Give me feed back!
Helen

I plan to be there and I have posted this on my local club board as well as on the short wheel base board on Off Road.com. I will relay any info to those boards.

Tellico Spring Fling

Hey everyone, the tellico ride in the spring would be a great idea. This County is really getting into a crunch with budget concerns and local economic slow down. I have been in contact with the Chamber of Commerce as well as the County Manager ever since this reality was in play with the park closing trails. The County as well as the Chamber of Commerce took the usual political stand to not really get involved, just like Rep. Heath Schuler and Rep. John Snow. They were afraid to death to make the Enviro-Terrorist groups angry at them.
As for the parade, I think that the numbers would freak them out. After speaking at a meeting with the Chamber, they really don't have a clue. Some see a few trucks come into town on the Fri and then forget all about it. I told them that just my campground alone has several thousands of visitors each year and they should really take notice of the local economic impact of this situation. All I got was a polite "Smooging" and then they went about their social party. They did agree to write a half ass letter to the Forest Service, but that was it. However now that the tables have turned in our local economy so abruptly, they may be more open to things. As everyone knows it is a lot easier to get the things you want when they need you.
As for the Tellico Spring Fling idea I have been trying to coordinate, I would like to offer up my campground. I would like to make this a large rally, with music, rock challenge, swap meet and any other ideas that would make this a huge and fun event that would help Southern with some much needed support. If there are any clubs that would like to assist me with this I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

Happy New Year Everyone!!!!

Thanks Danny!!

I also want to add. If you have a buggy or what ever on a trailer, BRING IT on the trailer. Get in the parade.

Let's start at the SAVE-A-LOT saturday, be there by 9:00 am.
Then plan to travel downtown to MacDonalds then back up town &
out for some wheelin.
I will call you and Jen soon. I know of a good local band and we will get this going! I'm also going to make flyers, signs ect.......for supporting business' to display in windows "Welcome back Tellico Trail Riders".

My old cruiser has tags, but it's kinda iffy on the street legal part. Would it be best to just leave it on the trailer or could i ride in the middle and not get harrased? Either way i'd like to try and help out.

If you think it's iffy. Why not just leave it on the trailer and drive the tow rig and all.
it would be better than the LEO's ticketing someone on the front page of the paper.

great idea.

just wanted yo let you know that weare having a huge toyota event in Harlan, Ky that weekend.
Maybe for future it would be good to do some parades with the events that happens there. The locals cant help but see the trucks here in Harlan, but in Murphy it isnt set up like we are. I have been to tellico 3 or 4 times and only been to Murphy once. So the parade idea is awesome!

Another thing that we did at the beginning of Harlan was to meet at the mall.
From there we had traffic lights blocked with cops and we paraded over 40 rigs and tow rigs with rigs on trailers to the trail head. Just so happened that the local tv guy was in Harlan and he filmed it. Was an eye opener...

I think this is a great idea. By parade are we talking a bunch of rigs running up and down the street or a full blown parade with police escort on closed streets, all trucks having beads or some type throw, music, high school bands, etc? This could be a reality and the Chamber and media would be a good place to start marketing the event. A few strategic placed banners around town would go a long way for local participation.

I will talk with the Chamber of Commerce on Monday and start the marketing on this. I would like to stretch it out to Thur. Fri and Sat. To make it worth while for the folks traveling a long distance. My bad side would also like to parade along the Tellico River and honk the horns at the Trout Fisherman, just to let them know we wont go away and also mess up their zin. Maybe next year!! I will post up dates as they come along.

Great idea. I'm from raleigh and I haven't made the 6hr drive up there yet but this would be a great excuse to go! I have a few friends who want to go up there too and I'll see if I can't get a group together.

If anyone has prizes they would like to donate for the Comp at Crawfords shoot me or Danny a pm. Offcamber is going to run the comp for Danny, but if there are any volunteers from other clubs we would love to have you. If we can get the whole town of Murphy behind us we will have a much better chance at saving Tellico.

Hey everyone...Just got off the phone with the County Manager who is also in charge of the Chamber of Commerce board. He advised that the County definetly supports the Tellico Off-Roaders and there would not be any issue as far as promotion of the event through the Chamber of Commerce. The County would issue any necessary permits needed. They however do not control the City of Murphy and we would have to go through them as far as a parade through town. I will keep everyone updated.

Hello all. I'll have all my vehicles there but I wonder if the savelot will be able to hold all the rigs, trucks and trailers? I know my local friends will have atleast 4 trucks with trailers and a half dozen more rigs.
I think I'm going to plan on spending the day in Murphy. After the parade I'll spend some time in the town...maybe till lunch? Hang out at the sonics? then cruise to crawfords? It would be neat to see a couple hundred rigs milling around Murphy for the day.

I'll try to see what prize donations I might be able to scare up. What would be appropriate? I've got a bunch of companies I can hit up for donations.

Also I would like to open my shop to the riders and rigs that are coming to Murphy for the day/weekend. If people need a place to park trucks/trailers, repair trail damage at our DIY shop, even offer over flow camping is Crawfords is filled to capacity. I'm 15 miles from down town Murphy.
