I am running Alcan mains and military 2nds in my front packs. The rest of the leaves are off of a chevy 2500. Your exactly right, I didn't go with full Alcans to cheap out, so far it works nice.

well, i must say, leaf springs arent the best, but sometimes it what you have to work with. i havnt been able to afford a coiled jeep that i can smash to bits on the trail just yet, so all my rigs have been leafed. best bet:

couple inch lift springs, (GOOD ONES, not rancho or skyjacker junk)
SOA
traction device to prevent wheel hop

very capable!

Have you wheeled with those XJ rears yet? Those 4 leaf ones are gonna give you a lot of trouble if you don't beef them up yet. Don't take it out too far without testing them out first. I put a YJ main and a YJ AAL in each pack and it's still flexes really easy. Just my .02

Otherwise looks really clean.

Have you had any experience with these yet? Do they add a noticeable amount of flex to your leaf setups? If they do I'm gonna throw some on both sides.

it gets rid of a lot of spring bind, the flex isnt really aided, just spring bind.

This is what i started with 2 sets of xj springs made into one .

This is what i ended up with .

It actually was not that expensive to do . Maybe 300 to 400 max . I had to fab most brackets myself and got free springs from a buddy to get those figures . Ballistic has all the other brackets and joints I could not fab myself .No more axle wrap

Leaf springs Rock and leaf springs suck, it just depends on the weather.

I'm getting Coil overs but have run leafs for a long time. As with anything, a good driver can work with what he's got, not just work with what he bought.

LOL

I think a lot people don't take much time to make leaf springs work.

I've seem more SOA leaf sprungs where the shocks or brake lines are the limiters to travel than not. Heck maybe a 4 out of 5.

It seems when some people want flex, they think they have to go with linked rear and/or front.
I'm not knocking the links, I've been out done by vehicles with them many time... I just think too many people jump from leafs because thats what people on the internet say to do.

My junk on STOCK CJ springs, HD type.

Give Springs a chance, that's all I'm saying...

Very cool thread, I'm planning on leaf springs on the front of my TJ when I build it(picking up axles tomorrow).

So the RE 1.5" YJ SOA work really well?

Anyone with axle-wrap issues in the front? anyone have the need to add a traction bar in front?

The REs held up to a lot of abuse but I have broke 2 springs, they lasted for a good 6 months of hard wheeling. I seriously considered a front traction bar because I felt I still had enough wrap to kill springs. I switched over to military wrapped BDS springs after the second break and didnt break those but they dont have many hours of use on them. I'm linking it in a few weeks so I dont have much "data"

My Junk! I got to do something different to my suspension. The front is too stiff and the rear is too slinky. Rig only ways 3500 lbs so I don't know if I should stiffin up the rear or try something different in the front.
