Frontier 4x4's 83 Toyota build

I've had this build up on my local club's forum and now moving it over to here.

I started with just over a month to get everything done for the first trip of the year, Howiepalooza. Some of the things I did are temporary just to get through this wheeling season. This is what happened in that month, I'll let the pics do most of the explaining.

Traded some labor for truck(swapped a couple thirds)
1983 SR5 22r L52 5sp
rears up front
chevy rears
doubler
Sky's high steer
Hydro assist
30 spline Longfields
Longfield hub gears
Hendrix 6 pin
V6 calipers
vented rotors
IFS rear
welded 4.10's
square front driveshaft
CV rear shaft
t-case crossmember
roll cage
bobbed bed
17x8 beadlocks
36x13.5x17 iroks

The truck is currently under the 2nd stage of the build up as of today. This includes:

front tube work, dovetail
complete rear tube
rear 4-link
propane conversion

This is how it looked after driving it home on 3 cylinders. First thing I did was check the compression and found out #4 intake wasn't closing. I adjusted the valves and got all the compression back and running smoother than any 22r I've ever had.

I then changed the leaking intake gasket, blocked off the egr, and removed all the extra vacuum lines. Did a tune up and changed all the fluids.

While I waited on parts, I bobbed the bed ~9" and swapped in an IFS rear axle

My rims showed up (Cragar 17x8 2.5bs) so I got the 36x13.5x17 iroks mounted up and on.

specs here, post 289: http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthrea...197981&page=12

Rears up front. The truck had 2.5 skyjacker springs on it front and rear. I used the skyjacker rears with one extra cut down leaf from the rear of my 88 4runner.

I replaced the front spring hanger and tapped and installed the IFS box. Replaced the front axle with another built axle(longs, hub gears, brakes.)

That put me up to the weekend before Howiepalooza with a bunch of little things to finish up. I welded in some door bars and took off for the weekend.

The last day out there we where headed back to the trailer and my front axle locked up about 10 feet from the trailer. I unlocked the hubs and got it on the trailer ready to head back home. When I got back, the driver side upper trunion was gone and all the roller bearings were jamming up between the outside of the longfield and the inside of the knuckle ball.

I had another complete axle so I swapped all the goods into that one after welding some armor and gussets on. That's the only fix I needed to do before the next trip a couple weeks later to Dresser, Wisconsin for the Memorial Day run.

Everything worked great at Dresser and came back with little carnage. The only things need fixing were getting replaced anyway. I came back with a cracked frame above the driver side factory spring mount and the upper shock crossmember is bent. The worst part is I have to replace a fitting on one of my rear shocks that hit the bed after the crossember bent.
