A NEW offroading opportunity in Western PA!
We need your help!
As we all know, legal trail riding opportunities in the East are rare. Even more rare are NEW places to ride. With your help, we can create a new opportunity for off-road enthusiasts. The Rock Run Recreation Area is a multi-use facility owned by the Cambria County Conservation and Recreation Authority. It was formerly owned by a coal company and was purchased with state monies and turned over to the CCCRA. The area now boasts in excess of 50 miles of ATV trails, with another 100 miles of trails planned. Rock Run is located near Patton, PA, about 2 hours east of Pittsburgh. Last fall, State Representative Gary Hulska (D) held a meeting for those who had emailed the park in hopes of OHV trails. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Western PA 4x4 Trails Advisory Committee was formed to assist the RRRA with creating trails. After countless hours of trail planning and building, a small trail ride was held in November 2007. While cold and snowy, the event was considered a success. When spring broke, the Committee addressed erosion concerns and continued to create trails. Last weekend, the park held its first official trail ride. It was a huge success for those involved. Members of Big Rubbers, Black List Wheelers Association, and Maryland Creepers brought approximately 30 rigs to the park. All trail levels from easy green trails to brutal red trails were run, some for the first time. With our continued success and good relationship with the park, the board of Rock Run appears ready to purse more OHV trail opportunities. While they know ATVs, they are not aware of the popularity of the OHVs. We need your support! Please send an email to both of these addresses. Please indicate that you are happy to see the park and would like to see more trails in place. We can make this happen! info@rockrunrecreation.com amcanult@pahouse.net More information can be found at www.rockrunrecreation.com and http://wpa4xtrac.org And to wet your appetite: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

that is awesome, I hope something comes of this! this would be a great alternative to the only 2 places people from michigan can go withing a 6-7 hour drive! right now it is pretty much north to canada or south west to the badlands.
judging by what you say this should be a 7-8 hr drive from dertoit making it very do-able. |

Awesome - great work Dan! I'll definitely hit this place up.
To put it in perspective for anyone not from this part of the country...this place is a little less than 6 hours from me, and to have it available as another alternative is a HUGE success. There's really that few places to go out here.

Sent in my email. I would think if they haven't heard of or seen a site like Pirate they should check it out to see how big an industry OHV owners are. I mentioned that in my email to the park.

I heard about this a few months ago, and it is an AWESOME step forward in PA.
For anyone who hasn't heard the call yet: DO WHAT YOU CAN TO KEEP PUBLIC LAND OPEN!!!! as great as this new place in PA is, remember that nearly all of the east coast is CLOSED to offroad use. And it is coming to the west. Stay vigilant! Be active!!!

I'm so happy to see progress in more places to wheel. We are passing the link to this post around like crazy. Even for me in Virginia its just 3 and half hours. Just a little more than if I went to RC

sent my emails out. I'm only about 4-hours away so this would be great to have more areas to ride within a reasonable drive.

i was lucky enough to go on the opening test trail ride with the maryland creepers and this place is an absolute blast. it is super clean, and the great secenery. The trail we ran was freakin insane and super fun. it makes most of the black/red trails we normally run seem like nothing. i dont know what dan was thinking when he cut the trail but he made one of the toughest trails i have ever run. it was a great weekend of wheelin and i look forward to going back sometime.

Great news, I will forward this information to the other member clubs within our Association (22), the North East Association of 4WD Clubs as well as other member Associations of United.
Have you contacted the Middle Atlantic 4WD Association or any of the other local clubs? Just curious, how how many acres is this recreational area? Good luck, and email is on its way

that grand vitara is amazing, very inspiring for my daily driver, only I wouldn't use such massive axles on it. I'll send the link to a couple people I know so they too can participate with this, even though we are on the opposite side of the country.

Rock Run is 6000 acres, 2000 which are set off for watershed protection. Take a look at the site maps on www.rockrunrecreation.com to see the whole facility. It's a rather huge place, and they're responding to us now. http://www.rockrunrecreation.com/upl.../site_plan.pdf Last edited by dan58; 07-21-2008 at 07:45 PM. |
