Smashmetals, Ton'd, repowered with LT1

Good by 3.0 and hello LT1!

I've allready done the suspension and running gear so it's time to add a better power plant.
This is how it stands now. 1993 4runner, dana 60 front, 14 bolt rear, toy to dana 300 doubler all sitten on 40d's.

I must throw credit to Crash, cause his thread is going to be my build bible.
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...ight=crash+sbc
Don't know if it will be as clean as his but I'll give it a shot!

I've collected a few parts so far.
Not sure if ill use the guages yet but I have them just in case.

AA so i can keep the toy to dana 300 doubler.

And here is my $500 LT1 (9C1), wich included all the acessories, wiring, radiator, steering colum, intake crap and a 700r4.

Removed from a wrecked cop car. so it dosent have the aluminium heads like most the LT1's did.

I will go ahead and apologize to the die-hard Toyota folks for not using a Toyota based power plant. But for the price I payed for a fully dressed LT1 I couldent turn it away. It was also probably just a matter of time untill the 180,000 mile 3.0 gave up the goose any how.

I've managed to get a little work done.
out with the old.

All cleaned up.

Plated things up a bit. not sure if I needed to but I'm sure it dosent hurt.

No need for the clutch seeing how the 700r4 will take it's place. so I removed clutch master cylinder and added a cover plate to keep the elements out.

Nice build man. I love the LT1's. If/when my 350 gives up, I'll put an LT1 in its place. Plan on putting any HP parts into the LT1, or just stock?

No horse power mods at the moment. I'm loosing precious wheel'n time with the motor out. So the big focus is get it in, get running and enjoy the wheel'n

Not as much progress As i would like but it's coming along. Hoping to have the engine mounts done this weekend. That will depend on how many times I have to pull it in and out checking clearances.

Droped it in fully dresses just to see how much room the V8 takes up.

I dident get pic's the first time but had a few clearance issues I had to take care of.
Power steering lines where hitting the harmonic balancer. You can see in this pic how far back they sit.

After a little metal tweeking I was able to move them foward.

I have been planning to build a shock tower brace for a while. So know that the engine is out it was a perfect time to remove some uneeded material. I will build the shock tower some time after the engine is in so i can clear the top of the motor.

Toy to Dana 300 doubler. I've allready added the 4:1 low gears, 32 spline rear output and of course the twin sticks to the Dana 300.

I know it's a 2WD tranny but the AA Adapter requires a new out put shaft in the tranny. I wanted to use this one because it's a K-case and all the wiring matches the harness.

I think this thing must have some kind of upgraded alternator. It would make since seeing how it was in a cop car, they do have a tendency to run a few lights
I have not seen any other chevy valve covers that have been clearanced for the alternator.

I kinda figured the LT1 block still had most of the same casting characteristics as the older blocks. Thats why i figured the DIY engine mounts would be a good starting point.

I dident figure the engine mounts would be too diffrent, i guess there really not but ill let the pics explain. Notice the bolt pattern.

Left side engine mount.

Rt side engine mount.

Needless to say I have one mount thats lower than the other.

I probably could have used a hand yesterday. I spent a better half of the day squaring and leveling the engine and tranny. Then I fixed the motor mounts so they both be on the same level.

For some reason I kept getting diffrent measurments when i was measuring to build the fram side mounts. After several hours of frustration I finally noticed that the Lft engine mount casting is about 1.5"s foward compared to the Rt side.

I'm kinda glad I dident fab any thing up yet cause as I was sitting enjoying a cold beer and my eye caught the Dana 300 sitting on the floor. I remember reading there have been several issues with 700r4, Dana 300 and front drive lines hitting the tranny pan. I'm Contemplating sliding the engine Lft about and 1". I may be fine with my set up thought cause the Dana 300 will have the yota case between it and the tranny.

how big a ram you go with?
I had a 1.5" psc ram, just swapped to a 2"
i drive on street [ keep hearing over 1.5" ram on street bad....not for me] & it made a huge difference aired down to 4lbs on 47s
still not easy all bound up, pump making some noise after trip, so it might be time to replace it too, think it's krc, swapped to psc rezzy & bigger ram, might need there pump too.

I'm running a 1.75" ram. When I had my Blazer back in the day I ran a 2" on it it was great off road but like you said on the street it was slow. If you drive icy roads you'll find out how slow a 2" ram is.
The 1.75" works really well so far, proabably still not as fast as the 1.5" but still strong enough to pushed 40" tires around well on the trail.

I don't find the 2" slow on the street, but always read those replies when asked
I might be special
