Due to work and school this will be a pretty slow build. I regretted selling my last ex cab after I built a first gen truck. The first gen was awesome but the can was too small for my liking. A good buddy of mine bought it and I was on the hunt for another 3rd gen extra cab. It took a while but I was able to find one on Craigslist 4 hours away in Tennessee. It's an 89 2wd V6. The motor was shot but it is the first time I've ever had a rust free project.
Plans are: 3.4 swap
A340 or AX15/R150 hybrid to Dana 300
D60 front 14bolt rear
5:38's
40's
3 link front
14" ORI struts
Leaf spring rear
Internal cage and maybe a supercharger down the road.

The day I picked it up

Pulled it in the garage and even tried getting the 3.0 to run but I think the valves were toast.

Picked up some 40X17 pro comp MT2's and compared them to my 38" Creepy crawlers.

Torched off the 2wd suspension and rolled the tires up to it.

Out comes the 3.0

Going to weld the hood scoop from my 2000 4Runner donor vehicle into the hood of the truck. I'm going to avoid any sort of a body lift.

Pulled the body and started the 3.4 swap.

The 2wd 3.0 oil pan and motor mounts worked perfect. The oil pan has a ton of clearance for the front axle.

Made my own crossover pipe and used a piece of exhaust as a coupling. Cost $0

Also built a gantry crane with scrap material leftover from work. Was free and will be more useful than a cherry picker.

Started the frame plates. I'll be using hydro assist so I incorporated steering box mounts into the plates.

Everything will be tig welded and I even have the wife a quick tig lesson...she is a natural.

I took advantage of RuffStuffs anniversary sale and bought my 3 link kit. I was going to get the 4WU kit but they would never answer my calls or PM's and would never call me back. I also goty ORI's from the Jenson Bros from the vendors list.

These things are beefy!

That's where the project sits as of now. I'm going to get the steering mounted and start the suspension soon.

Nice start. I'm very interested in how you set up the front suspension with the stock frame. I'm collecting 3 link parts now.
